1991: the first BBS (Bulletin Board Systems). The Thing New York was born.

1991-4: the first multimedia on-line experiments. Selling images, establishing connections with physical space, first locally then in long distance.

1995: the first mailing lists. The Thing becomes a non profit organization. The first Web site and the idea of making it function as a social network. The first web cam at The Thing.

Between electronic bodies and physical space at the time. Ricardo Dominguez's Electronic Disturbance Theater project and the first acts of "electronic civil disobedience".
