Chicks on Speed empezaron en el 1997 como una falsa banda musical, con sus falsos discos, falsas camisetas y falsas entrevistas en la prensa especializada. Pocos años después la prensa especializada (la "verdadera") las alababa como fenómeno emergente y elogiaba sus (verdaderos) discos como iniciadores de un nuevo género, denominado electroclash. Y sin embargo Chicks on Speed es mucho más que una banda: es cierto, surfean las efímeras categorías del mundo de la mùsica, pero - como dijo su biógrafo no oficial - prefieren acostarse con sus fans antes que con los periodistas musicales! Chicks on Speed es en realidad un proyecto artístico multidisciplinar que vuelca su actitud "Do-It-Yourself" no solamente a la mùsica, sino también a las performances, al diseño de ropa, a un programa televisivo de televenta, a la realización de enormes collages, a la gestión de un sello discográfico suicida (que desaparecerá con su décima publicación).
